We’re thrilled to announce that we are now a preferred custom cake designer of NYC’s luxurious World Yacht. I recently met up with Heather Collis and John Triolo from World Yacht to have a little cake and talk a bit about the Yacht Experience. Ironically, as we were talking, I remembered having my 15th birthday on one of the beautiful yachts for dinner with my family while we circled Manhattan. It was the first time I tasted baked brie; I was forever hooked! I remembered thinking that the Yacht would be perfect for a unique wedding. For all of those out there that love the thought of their special event on a magnificent yacht, this is the one for you.
Q: Can you give our readers a description of your yacht and it’s decor?
A: We have 4 yachts in our fleet: the Rendezvous, Destiny, Princess and Duchess. What sets us apart from other boats on the water is our outer deck space. We have the largest roof decks on the water. For our biggest yachts, the Princess and Duchess, which have a classic, glamor look – our Floating Rooftops are 3 stories above the water. We have the main dinning deck for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres offering the best views of the city. The Destiny and Rendezvous are for parties of 50 – 150 and have a more modern, sleek look. We are thrill to have just acquired the Rendezvous! All of our yachts are docked at our Pier 81 at West 41st Street and the West Side Highway come by and see us anytime!
Q: What is the most outrageous event to take place on world yacht?
A:We had the Fab Faux do a concert here last summer. The pier was covered with their fans and a large group of fans got to go for a cruise on the Princess with the band after the show. It was awesome to see so many people. You really get caught up in all of the energy.
Q: Can you give a sample of your menu favorites?
A: Our Chef Denis Weekes was on Chopped recently, we were very proud ! For starters: our Octopus Salad is delicious! Grilled baby octopus, garbanzo beans, baby heirloom tomatoes, orecchiette pasta & baby arugula tossed in a cilantro vinaigrette. I’d say, my favorite main dish he makes is his marinated pork chops with salsa verde. It’s so flavorful and juicy, it makes my mouth water just thinking of it.
Q: How many people can the world yacht hold for a wedding or large event?
A: We can do parties up to 500 people. The largest one I’ve done so far is 445 guests. I’ve been with World Yacht since May and I was thrilled to see all of the guests have a wonderful time! Our wait staff is so sweet and accommodating. They will approach you to fill your wine glass when needed and you won’t even see them coming!
Q: Where does the world yacht typically go during an event? What is the furthest it goes?
A: We sail from West 42nd down the Hudson to the Statue of Liberty where we turn up the East River and go under all of the Bridges: Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburg Bridges, up to the United Nations and back to the Statue to get up close and personal with her. I’ve been to Ellis island and the best view of the Statue is definitely from the water. She looks so big and beautiful, the photo opportunities are phenomenal.
Q: How much in advance does a guest need to book a large event like a wedding?
A: I think most venues and people getting married would say a year in advance is best, but we have pulled off fabulous weddings in 90 days. I had a bride come to me saying she lost her venue and wanted to see our yachts as soon as possible. She came in the same day, decided on the Destiny and signed the contract! She was so relieved. I can’t imagine how stressed she must have been. I spent a lot of hours emailing and talking with her on the phone, but the day of she was relaxed and let us handle her special day. It was very rewarding seeing how happy she was with our staff. We have excellent vendors that we work with and couldn’t have done it without them!
Q: Can I book a reservation for dinner or is it just for large events?
A: We have both! We have a dinner cruise that goes out every night on the Duchess, we can do a party of two or a large group on the Duchess or you can charter your own private yacht and sail whenever you like.
Q: How can our customers get in touch with world yacht to reserve an event?
A: They can email me directly at email@example.com if it’s for a private event or email our reservations department for our dinner cruise at firstname.lastname@example.org . Our website is http://www.worldyacht.com
